A helicopter that was extinguishing a forest fire in a hillside in northern Daegu crashed, resulting in the death of a pilot in his 70s on the 6th.

According to the Korea Forest Service and others, a fire, the cause of which has not been determined, broke out around 3:12 p.m. that day in a hillside in Seobyun-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu. Fire and forest authorities dispatched six helicopters for fire extinguishing, 47 fire trucks, and 134 personnel to conduct firefighting operations.

During this process, a rented firefighting helicopter belonging to the Dong-gu Office crashed. A representative from the forest authority noted that "the pilot, a man identified as A Namsung (74), has been confirmed deceased." The helicopter involved in the accident was an outdated model, 44 years old, and it was reported that only A Namsung was on board.

Fire and police authorities said, "We are determining the exact cause of the accident." The forest fire was extinguished around 4:01 p.m.
