The government will provide emergency living expenses of 3 million won to residents affected by the wildfire.

Deputy Minister of the Central Disaster Management Headquarters (Ministry of the Interior and Safety acting minister) announced this after discussing support measures for the stabilization of housing for disaster victims at a wildfire response meeting for Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, and Ulsan at the Government Seoul Building on the morning of the 5th.

The Deputy Minister said, “The Korea Forest Service dispatched an emergency diagnosis team for wildfire damage to Ulju County, Ulsan, to prevent secondary damage such as landslides in the wildfire-affected areas, and checked the areas at risk of landslides. Based on the evaluation results, we plan to complete emergency recovery in the areas that require it by June and to promote permanent recovery sequentially.”

He added, “In the future, the government will promote permanent dwellings for disaster victims not only through government ministries but also by linking with housing projects of public institutions,” and noted, “We are actively reviewing measures to expand support, such as reflecting the actual costs for restoring major crops and expanding the types of agricultural equipment support.”

According to the Central Disaster Management Headquarters, as of 6 a.m. on that day, 3,274 people from 1,972 households were in temporary evacuation. More than 2,400 people moved from temporary evacuation facilities to temporary lodging facilities.

Currently, a total of 92.5 billion won has been raised through various disaster relief associations, and emergency living expenses of 3 million won will be prioritized for individuals affected by casualties and housing damage. Approximately 8,000 psychological support cases have been conducted to aid in recovery from trauma caused by the wildfire.

The government plans to establish and finalize a long-term recovery plan by the end of this month based on the results of the joint survey on disaster damage, which will be conducted until the 15th.

The Deputy Minister said, “In the future, the government will promote permanent dwellings for disaster victims not only through government ministries but also by linking with housing projects of public institutions, and furthermore, we will establish special measures that include system improvements and financial support tailored to the characteristics of the affected areas to ensure recovery into a community.”
