Seoul City announced on the 3rd that it has submitted a proposal to increase the local exchange cooperation fund by 5 billion won to the Seoul City Council. This fund is intended to support areas affected by the recent wildfires.
Seoul City plans to immediately donate 4 billion won to the Korean Red Cross Seoul Branch if the fund increase proposal is approved at the 329th extraordinary session of the council held that afternoon. The remaining 1 billion won will be secured as reserve funds for disaster preparedness against floods and other natural disasters.
Earlier, on March 24th, shortly after the wildfires broke out, Seoul City provided 500 million won in relief funds to the Korean Red Cross Seoul Branch.
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon noted that "the wildfires in the Yeongnam region, which caused unprecedented damage, are a serious challenge that requires a unified response from the entire nation beyond a specific regional disaster," adding that "this fund increase reflects a strong determination to mobilize all available resources for comprehensive support."
