A man in his 60s, accused of assaulting Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Jae-jeong, was handed over to the prosecution on the 2nd.
The Jongno Police Station in Seoul stated that they transferred Mr. A to the prosecution on charges of assault.
Mr. A is accused of kicking and hitting lawmaker Lee, who was passing in front of the Constitutional Court in Jongno District, around 6:10 p.m. on the 20th of last month. The police conducted an investigation the next day by taking Mr. A into custody, analyzing closed-circuit (CC) TV, and confirming the situation at the scene.
A police official said, “We plan to swiftly and strictly investigate illegal acts such as assault disputes and obstruction of official duties to maintain order in front of the Constitutional Court.”
Meanwhile, the police are continuing their investigation into the suspect who threw eggs at lawmakers, including Democratic Party lawmaker Baek Hye-ryun, who were holding a press conference in front of the main gate of the Constitutional Court on the 20th of last month.
