The former secretary of former People Power Party lawmaker Jang Je-won, who filed a sexual assault complaint against him, was scheduled to hold a press conference on the morning of the 1st, but it was canceled after the news of Jang's death was announced.

Attorney Kim Jae-ryeon of the law firm Onsesang, representing the complainant, announced on Facebook that the press conference, which was set to take place at 10 a.m. at their office in Seocho-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, would be canceled. The complainant was not planning to attend.

Earlier, the complainant filed a complaint against former lawmaker Jang with the police on Jan. 17. He is accused of sexually assaulting the complainant, who was his secretary, on Nov. 18, 2015, while serving as the vice president of a university in Busan. Jang's side has consistently denied the allegations of sexual assault made by the complainant.

Attorney Kim stated that evidence, including videos corroborating the sexual assault allegations against Jang, was submitted to the police the previous day. The complainant realized there had been sexual assault and harassment after considering the surrounding circumstances on the morning of Nov. 18, 2015. Subsequently, thinking that evidence needed to be preserved, the complainant took photos and videos of the situation in the hotel room while Jang was asleep.

Attorney Kim claimed that the video recorded at the time includes ▲ situations where Jang calls the complainant's name and asks for errands ▲ attempts by Jang to harass the complainant ▲ and the complainant responding with a tremulous voice. Additionally, it was revealed that the complainant visited the Sunflower Center, a support organization for victims of sexual violence, on the day of the incident to collect evidence using an emergency kit.

According to the police and others, former lawmaker Jang was found dead around 11:40 p.m. the previous day in an officetel in Gangdong-gu, Seoul. A suicide note believed to have been written by Jang was found at the scene, and so far, there are no indications of foul play.
