The government decided on April 1 to additionally support the North Gyeongsang and South Gyeongsang regions, which were damaged by forest fires, with 22.6 billion won in disaster safety special grants.
Deputy Minister Ko remarked at the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters meeting held at the North Gyeongsang provincial office.
The disaster safety special grants provided by the government are intended for urgent safety measures such as debris removal due to the forest fires and preventing the spread of secondary damage.
In addition, Deputy Minister Ko noted, "We plan to provide additional disaster safety special grants for damage recovery once the recovery plan is finalized after this support."
He also said, "Restoring the residents' daily lives is our top priority, and I will do everything I can for damage recovery," adding, "Above all, the most urgent task is to support the evacuees in moving to more comfortable living spaces."
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, about 1,800 evacuees who had been staying in over 100 temporary shelters moved to community centers and public institution training facilities on March 31.
Deputy Minister Ko stated, "In the future, we will ensure that evacuees can move to temporary housing facilities of their choice, such as temporary assembly houses and Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) jeonse housing."
The government will also support damaged farms to resume farming activities. Deputy Minister Ko remarked, "We will support the free rental of agricultural machinery and organize repair service teams for inspection and free repairs, while promptly providing agricultural disaster compensation funds as well."
