The police investigation into the Japanese woman who caused controversy by giving a 'surprise kiss' to Jin (33, real name Kim Seok-jin), a member of the group BTS, has recently been suspended.
The Songpa Police Station in Seoul stated through a notice of investigation results sent to the complainant regarding the Jin case on the 26th that "a decision to suspend the investigation (suspension of the suspect) was made in accordance with Article 1, Clause 1, Sub-clause (a) and (b) of the Police Investigation Regulations." This regulation stipulates that if the suspect's whereabouts are unknown, or if they are staying overseas for more than two months or have a serious illness, the investigation can be suspended until the reasons are resolved.
The complainant stated in a post on an online community that "during a currency with the investigator, one person said that they cannot appear right now and will appear several months later, which is why the investigation was suspended," and "another person said their whereabouts could not be determined."
The police have been investigating a 50-year-old Japanese woman, identified as A, on charges of suddenly kissing Kim's cheek during a 'hugging event' with 1,000 fans held at the Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium on June 13 last year, under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act regarding acts in crowded public places.
At that time, Kim experienced this incident the day after completing his military service during an event with fans. A wrote on her blog, "My lips touched his neck. His skin was very soft," and afterwards, A's actions sparked a "sexual harassment controversy."
The police received a complaint from a netizen through the National Police Agency's Citizen Report Center after the incident occurred. They subsequently identified A's Shinwon in cooperation with Japanese Interpol. However, A has not responded to the summons and as a result, the investigation has stalled and been suspended.
With this decision to suspend the investigation, proceedings on the case will effectively stop until A voluntarily appears or her whereabouts are confirmed again.
