The Ministry of Education noted on the 31st that it will conduct an autonomous public high school 2.0 recruitment from April 1 to June 30.
Autonomous public high school 2.0 is a school that designs its curriculum by utilizing various entities and local resources such as local governments, universities, and corporations. High schools can operate learning processes in life sciences, physics, and more in collaboration with local university faculty, or hold academic festivals that all students at local high schools can participate in through collaboration with research institutes.
The government plans to provide 200 million won annually for five years to the schools selected in this recruitment. Schools that receive the funding can autonomously manage their curriculum and academic operations, and can also receive exceptions such as assigning invited faculty up to 100% of the teacher quota and allowing additional teacher assignments.
The Ministry of Education plans to select around 20 autonomous public high school 2.0 this year. This will be determined through evaluation of newly applying schools and schools that were conditionally selected in last year's third recruitment.
The final selection results are scheduled to be announced in July. The selected schools will be designated as autonomous public high school 2.0 starting from March next year and will operate until February 2031.
Cho Eun-joo, acting head of the Ministry of Education's Division of Educational Policy, said, “We will select schools that will play a pivotal role in the innovation of local public education through this recruitment,” and “We will spare no effort to improve local educational conditions and to realize education innovation centered on local communities.”
