On the 31st, water accumulated on the tracks at Gajwa Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line in the Seodaemun District of Seoul, halting train operations in both directions between Digital Media City (DMC) Station and Gongdeok Station for more than 6 hours.

Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) reported that at around 8:32 a.m. on the same day, water flowed into some tracks at Gajwa Station, leading to the suspension of train operations from 11:10 a.m. The train operations have not resumed as of 5:30 p.m. on the same day, more than 6 hours later.

KORAIL is operating on Digital Media City to Munsan and Gongdeok to Yongmun routes, excluding the suspended section between DMC Station and Gongdeok Station. Additionally, trains running on the above-ground section from Seoul Station to Sinchon Station to Gajwa Station to DMC Station, which originally operated once every hour, have been decreased to every 30 minutes.

KORAIL reported that water had flowed into some tracks at Gajwa Station due to drainage issues arising from electrical supply disruptions. As of around 3 p.m., three pumps and two dredging vehicles have been mobilized for drainage operations. After completing the drainage work and conducting all safety inspections related to train operations, KORAIL plans to resume service.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has sent railway safety inspectors to the site and has established a railway disaster safety situation room. KORAIL and the Fire Service are reportedly conducting support for operations recovery and investigating the cause of the flooding.

The operation status of the Gyeongui-Jungang Line can be checked through the Subway Talk app, train announcements, and the railway customer center.
