As the Constitutional Court approaches the date for the ruling on the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol, large-scale protests either supporting or opposing the impeachment are set to take place throughout downtown Seoul this weekend.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on the 15th, groups in favor of impeachment, including the Immediate Resignation of Yoon Suk-yeol and Social Reform Emergency Action (Emergency Action), will hold a rally in the area of Sajik-ro in the afternoon before marching to Biwon Intersection. Opponents of impeachment, including the Free Unified Party, will gather from Sejong Intersection to Daehanmun.
The conservative Christian group Save Korea plans to conduct a large-scale rally and march on Uisadang-daero in Yeongdeungpo District. The Seoul police will deploy about 230 traffic officers around the rally and march areas to minimize inconvenience for citizens.
On the 16th, the ‘2025 Seoul Marathon,’ hosted by the Seoul City, the Korea Athletics Federation, and the Dong-A Ilbo, will take place, leading to phased traffic controls from Gwanghwamun Square to Jamsil Sports Complex. Traffic on Sejong-daero will be controlled from 5:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., and downtown roads, including Euljiro, Cheonggyecheon-ro, and Jongno will be controlled from 7:50 a.m. to 11:11 a.m. Traffic will also be controlled on the sections around Sinseol-dong Station, Gunja Bridge, Jamsil Bridge, and Jamsil Sports Complex from 8:59 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The 10km course, which starts from Jamsil Sports Complex and returns at the Garak Market station intersection, will have restricted access from 5 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
On the day of the marathon, 1,651 personnel, including traffic police, will be deployed to facilitate vehicle movement, and the city of Seoul plans to adjust bus routes temporarily within the controlled areas. The police have urged citizens passing near the rally sites and marathon course to use public transportation.
