Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, will launch a revitalization project coinciding with the visit of global K-pop star BTS member V to the local traditional market. On the 8th, Chuncheon Mayor Yoo Dong-han posted a photo taken with V at the same location on his social media, expressing gratitude to V for visiting Chuncheon, along with the caption, "Aside from the location, it's quite different in many ways."
V recently posted a photo taken at the Gyeongchun Line railway bridge in Chuncheon’s traditional market on his social media. This place features a mural of the representative work "Camellia Flower" by local literary figure Kim Yoo-jung. Following the news of V's visit, the number of fans visiting the site has increased, turning the bench into a landmark known as the "BTS Holy Site," according to the Chuncheon city government.
In fact, places such as Yangpyeong introduced in V's 2023 vlog and Naksan Beach in Yangyang, Gangwon Province, where he visited in 2022, have experienced an increase in visitors and emerged as new tourist spots. The city has decided to actively promote the revitalization project for the traditional market, coinciding with V's visit. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups selected Chuncheon as a cultural tourism model for special market development projects at the end of last year.
As a result, the city plans to invest up to 1 billion won in the traditional market to develop a variety of specialized products, including photo zones and experiential programs, by next year. Additionally, next year, plans are in place for foreign flea markets and traveler exchange and experience programs. A Chuncheon city official noted on the 11th, "Through this opportunity, we aim to develop the traditional market into a distinctive space where the local economy and culture combine, and we will actively seek ways to attract domestic and international tourists by linking various cultural contents."
