The form of the South Korean driver's license has changed for the first time in 23 years.

On the 11th, the Korea Road Traffic Authority announced that they will produce and issue driver’s licenses utilizing the latest techniques to enhance security. The new driver's license incorporates security designs that make counterfeiting more difficult, including raised line art and Searo patterns, as well as color-changing ink that varies depending on the angle of view.

The Korea Road Traffic Authority and the Korean National Police Agency conducted a preference survey for customers visiting the driver's licensing offices last year to select the new security design for the driver's licenses by the end of the year. The new driver's licenses are designed to feature a road shape that naturally connects and integrates the eagle, a symbol of the police.

Since the end of January, approximately 4.89 million first-time license applicants and those eligible for renewal or fitness testing this year are receiving driver's licenses with the new design upon renewal. Existing driver's licenses can still be used, and individuals can obtain the new driver's license anytime by visiting a testing center or applying online.
