The Ministry of Education noted on the 26th that it will promote the '2026 national university leased private investment project (BTL) dormitory construction.'
BTL is a project that utilizes private capital to construct and remodel university dormitories. After constructing the facilities with private funds, the ownership is transferred to the education office upon completion, and the facilities are leased to recover the investment costs.
Since its implementation in 2005, 76 dormitories are currently in operation.
Next year's project will target 10 universities. Field surveys and eligibility and feasibility studies will be conducted, and final decisions are expected in May.
The Ministry of Education stated that starting next year, it will expand the standard area per student determining the size of dormitories from the current 18㎡ to 22㎡.
This will ensure that students’ privacy is protected by configuring all rooms as individual bedrooms. Additionally, plans are in place to provide amenities such as study spaces, laundry rooms, convenience stores, and package storage rooms.
Park Seong-min, Deputy Minister for Planning and Coordination of the Ministry of Education, said, 'I hope more students can focus on their studies without the burden of housing costs in a pleasant environment.'
