President Yoon Seok-youl did not attend the investigation scheduled at 10 a.m. on the 25th by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO). President Yoon is a suspect facing charges, including masterminding the 'Dec. 3 emergency martial law' rebellion. The CIO stated that they are willing to wait longer for President Yoon.
The Joint Investigation Headquarters (Joint Headquarters), which includes participation from the CIO, National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters, and the Ministry of National Defense's investigation bureau, notified President Yoon to appear at the Government Complex Gwacheon for questioning on this day. President Yoon did not appear at the scheduled investigation time.
Previously, President Yoon did not respond to the request for appearance on the 18th made by the Joint Headquarters. The Joint Headquarters sent a second request for appearance on the 20th. Seok Dong-hyeon, attorney for President Yoon, stated the day before that “it seems difficult to appear.” The stance from President Yoon's side is that since the National Assembly has impeached him, the Constitutional Court's impeachment trial should take precedence over the investigation.
