The Ministry of Education noted on the 19th that Gyeongnam Uiryeong High School received the grand prize at the Excellent Educational Facilities Contest this year.
The government has held the Excellent Educational Facilities Contest annually since 1998. The contest aims to create school spaces that are user-centered and to select educational facilities with outstanding design and architecture. This year's contest targeted educational facilities that have been newly built, expanded, renovated, or structurally altered (remodeled) within the past two years.
Uiryeong High School, selected as the best school, was highly praised for establishing student-centered future learning spaces such as 'self-directed learning spaces, expression stage (community stairs), and creative activity rooms.' It is said that these spaces reflect the demands of students and staff who participated in the preliminary planning prior to completion in March last year.
Additionally, five schools, including Techno Elementary and Suchang Elementary (Daegu), Media Edu Center (Gyeonggi), Milju Elementary (Gyeongnam), and Bansong Elementary (Gyeongnam), received excellence awards. Milju Elementary created a park for local residents, Techno Elementary developed an open school library, the School Media Education Center established a media-focused experiential space, and Suchang Elementary created a resident-open library and an audiovisual room.
Jeon Jin-seok, Director General of the Ministry of Education's Cooperation and Safety Bureau, noted, “We will continue to promote space restructuring so students can grow in safe and comfortable learning environments, and actively discover and spread cases of excellent educational facilities.”
