Son Myung-hee, the deputy director of the Data Innovation Center of the Digital Innovation Promotion Team at Samsung Medical Center and a professor of emergency medicine, was appointed as a board member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) on the 17th, as announced by Samsung Medical Center. The term begins in July and lasts for four years.
HIMSS is a nonprofit organization in the United States that integrates information technology (IT) into the healthcare environment to promote the efficiency of healthcare systems, patient safety, and the quality of medical services. It is considered the world’s top authority in assessing the digital maturity and informatization levels of healthcare institutions, with over 100,000 individual members and about 500 institutional members worldwide.
The HIMSS board is a key decision-making body that leads global strategy formulation and policy development in the field of healthcare information, consisting of 11 experts selected from industry, hospitals, government, and academia.
Until now, chief information officers from institutions such as the Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic have mainly participated, but Professor Son has been elected as the first Korean member of the board.
Professor Son Myung-hee said, "It is very meaningful that our hospital's vision for becoming a world-class smart hospital has been recognized on the global stage," adding, "I will continue to strive for the hospital's digital innovation and contribute to global healthcare innovation through international collaboration."
