POSTECH announced the first four beneficiaries of its 'early decision system for extended retirement' on the 17th. The early decision system for extended retirement is a system that guarantees outstanding professors' retirement at age 70 around the age of 50, extending the existing retirement age of 65 years in domestic universities by five years, and adding the unprecedented condition of 'early confirmation.'
This system targets outstanding professors with world-class research capabilities and leadership and will start with 3% this year, ultimately selecting and operating only within 30% of guaranteed retirement professors. This time, Professor Lee Hyun-woo (55), Professor Jeong Un-ryong (53), Professor Han Wook-sin (53), and Professor Min Seung-ki (52) were selected. All four are esteemed scholars recognized for their global-level research capabilities, having published numerous papers in top journals and invited as keynote speakers at international conferences.
Professor Lee Hyun-woo is pioneering a new research field called 'orbitronics,' developing new technologies to implement next-generation information devices through electronic orbit control. Professor Jeong Un-ryong is a pioneer in the development of next-generation electronic materials with flexibility and stretchability, expanding application possibilities in various industrial fields such as wearable devices, healthcare, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Professor Han Wook-sin is a global authority in databases and big data, contributing to the development of vast data processing technologies, including the creation of the high-performance graph analysis engine 'TurboGraph.' Professor Min Seung-ki is a world-renowned scholar in the field of artificial climate change detection, providing crucial scientific evidence for climate crisis response through the identification of causes of extreme water cycles due to global warming and predictions of early Arctic ice melting.
Lee Jong-bong, the dean of POSTECH, noted, "This system will serve as an important stepping stone to support professors in continuing creative and challenging research in a stable environment," and stated, "We will foster a researcher-centered culture and firmly establish our global research competitiveness."
