The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it has designated 20 corporate research institutes as outstanding corporate research institutes based on the results of the application and review for the first half of 2025, and held a certificate award ceremony on the 9th. Since 2017, the Ministry has been selecting outstanding corporate research institutes to create a virtuous cycle ecosystem for private research and development (R&D). In the first half of this year, a total of 20 corporations were selected, including 9 in the manufacturing sector and 11 in the service sector. Being designated as an outstanding corporate research institute provides various benefits such as preferential participation in national research and development projects, bonus points for designation as a military service exception company, and government awards.
The Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) announced that they will hold the 'HUSS (Humanity Utmost Sharing System) Convergence Camp' at Lahan Select from the 8th to the 11th. This camp, now in its third year, has approximately 900 students and participants from 50 universities belonging to 10 consortiums. The event is a camp-type educational program designed for convergence talents in the humanities and social sciences to foster creative convergent thinking and showcase their abilities.
The Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) signed a business agreement on the 9th with Jeonbuk State, Gunsan City, and Kunsan National University to advance carbon dioxide capture and utilization (CCU) technology and conduct a demonstration project for e-Fuel production technology at the Gunsan City Hall. e-Fuel refers to synthetic fuel made by synthesizing hydrogen, which is decomposed from water, and carbon dioxide. The aim of this project is to produce synthetic crude oil from carbon dioxide captured in industrial complexes and hydrogen from electrolysis.
The 9th ICMI-East Asia Mathematics Education International Conference, the largest international academic conference in the field of mathematics education in East Asia, will be held from the 18th to the 22nd at Seoul National University's Siheung campus. This year's EARCOME 9 will be conducted under the theme 'Revisiting the essence of mathematics education in the era of digital transformation.' Keynote speeches will be delivered by Professor Patricia Hubsch from the University of Michigan and Professor Wei Tiong Hsia from the University of Melbourne, with a record 316 presenters participating.
