■The Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI) will hold the 464th STEPI Science and Technology Policy Forum on the theme 'In the AI age, reexamining the conditions and policies for talent' in the press conference room on the 19th floor of the Korea Press Center at 2 p.m. on the 10th in collaboration with the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET). This forum is designed to review and redesign the changes in the qualities of talent required by future society in light of the rapid spread of AI technology and the transformation of the industrial and labor environment. ■Konkuk University and the Korea Science Journalists Association announced the selection of journalist Park Geun-tae from ChosunBiz as a recipient of the '1st Sangheo Science Writing Project' support program. The Sangheo Science Writing Support Project was established to practice the belief of Sangheo Yoo Seok-chang, the founder of Konkuk University, in promoting science and technology. Journalist Park is working on a piece titled 'The World as Seen from Space: A New Weapon for Journalism that Reads the World, Satellites (tentative title)' and plans to publish a book.
■The National Science Museum will operate the children's exhibition program 'Tam's Dream Secret Laboratory' every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from July to August to celebrate the summer vacation and introduce various special summer event activities. 'Tam's Dream Secret Laboratory' is an interactive experience program designed to stimulate curiosity and imagination about science, which attracted more than 5,000 children throughout 2024. This summer, additional exciting activities such as 'Laboratory Stamp Breaking,' 'Capsule Toy Gifts,' and 'Random Science Kit Missions' will be available. ■The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) announced on the 3rd that it signed a memorandum of understanding with LIG Nex1 on the establishment and operation cooperation of a 'Defense Autonomous Systems Research Center' on the 2nd. Through this agreement, KAIST and LIG Nex1 plan to commence joint research and advanced technology development in defense autonomous systems and AI-based system technologies. To this end, the two institutions will establish and jointly operate a 'Defense Autonomous Systems Research Center'. They plan to create synergies with the research results accumulated in the existing Defense Intelligent Cluster Systems Research Center and expand cooperation in research in the field of autonomous systems.
■The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) and KAIST will hold the '2nd Astronomy and Space AI Competition' to train AI experts for space research and establish a system for utilizing space AI data. This competition is part of the SpaceAI program aimed at expanding the application of artificial intelligence technology in the field of space science and technology, and it targets university and graduate students. The topic is automated technology for detecting solar coronal mass ejections, and both the preliminary and final rounds will take place online.
