The amendment to the special law for supporting science and engineering fields has passed the Cabinet meeting. The Ministry of Science and ICT evaluated that the enforcement ordinance provides a legal basis for comprehensive support for science and technology talent.
The Ministry of Science and ICT noted on the 19th that the enforcement ordinance of the special law for supporting science and engineering fields has passed the Cabinet meeting.
To systematically nurture and support science and technology talent, the Ministry of Science and ICT enacted the special law for supporting science and engineering fields on Dec. 20 last year. Subsequently, it prepared an enforcement ordinance detailing specific matters, which has now passed the Cabinet meeting.
The special law for supporting science and engineering fields specifically outlines the necessary provisions for supporting undergraduate students in science and engineering, postdoctoral researchers, senior science and technology professionals, and science and technology content. It has clearly defined the considerations to take into account when establishing support measures for undergraduate students in science and engineering and postdoctoral researchers.
Additionally, to ensure systematic management and support for senior science and technology professionals, it has clarified the scope of senior science and technology professionals and the range of information collection. The scope of support for the production and distribution of science and technology-related content has also been explicitly specified. The expansion of the scope for surveys of science and engineering personnel and the removal of the mandatory service period and recovery regulations for undergraduate research grants in science and engineering have also been reflected in the enforcement ordinance amendment.
A representative from the Ministry of Science and ICT stated, "With this enforcement ordinance, we expect to complement essential gaps in comprehensive support for science and technology talent and establish a legal foundation necessary for policy and project promotion, thereby responding to the rapidly changing environment for nurturing talent and enhancing the capabilities of science and engineering professionals."
