The Nuclear Safety And Security Commission announced on the 18th that it held the opening ceremony for the Hanul Regional Radiation Disaster Response Center in Uljin County, Gyeongbuk. The Commission is currently operating on-site radiation disaster response centers in regions 5 to 15 kilometers near five nuclear power plants in the country. The regional response center is responsible for responding to accidents occurring outside the 30-kilometer radius of nuclear power plants in the event of a large-scale nuclear accident. The Uljoo Regional Response Center opened earlier in August 2022, and the Hanul Regional Response Center has now opened and begun operations.
The Institute for Basic Science (IBS) Cognitive and Social Research Group announced that it will hold the '6th IBS High School Student Neuroscience Camp' from July 28 to August 8 at the IBS headquarters in Daejeon. This program is designed to provide high school students dreaming of becoming neuroscientists with career exploration and professional training opportunities. The camp will recruit 12 high school students online, and the participation fee is free.
The Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST) and the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST) announced that they will hold the '2nd Advanced Science and Technology Human Resources Development Policy Forum' on the 19th in the 2nd seminar room of the National Assembly Members' Hall. This forum will focus on the theme of the 'borderless scientific talent war,' discussing issues such as the imbalance of foreign talent outflow and inflow, improvements in the domestic research environment, and the establishment of a talent circulation system. Lee Won-hong, head of the KISTEP Talent Policy Center, and Yoo Pil-jin, director of the Planning and Coordination Office at Sungkyunkwan University, will give presentations, and Kim Geun-soo, a professor in the Department of Physics at Yonsei University, Hong Yong-taek, a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Seoul National University, and Cho Gil-won, a professor at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), will participate as discussants.
The National Gwacheon Science Museum announced that it will run the '2025 Family Accompanied Career Exploration Program' for youth and their parents from July to October this year. This year’s program will consist of visits to eight research institutions related to promising science and technology occupations. Participating families will have the opportunity to communicate directly with researchers on-site and experience the research process, with about 30 participants per session, targeting youth from the 5th grade of elementary school to the 2nd year of middle school and their guardians.
