Samsung Electronics' new supercomputer 'SSC-24' ranked 18th in the world supercomputer rankings. According to measured performance, Korea climbed from 10th to 9th place since last November.
The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) announced on the 12th that it revealed the world supercomputer rankings 'ISC Top500' at the '2025 ISC High Performance Computing Conference' (ISC 2025), which opened in Hamburg, Germany, on the 10th. The ISC Top500 has been comparing and announcing the performance of supercomputers worldwide twice a year since 1993.
Korea ranked 9th with a total measured performance of 323.11 petaflops (PFLOPS). Petaflops is a metric that shows the performance of supercomputers, where 1 petaflop represents the ability to perform 1 quadrillion calculations per second.
In Korea, Samsung Electronics' 'SSC-24', which made its debut this time, ranked first in the country with 106.2 petaflops and 18th in the world. Naver's Sejong followed at 50th, and Kakao's Kakao Cloud came in 52nd. KISTI's supercomputer No. 5, Nurion, recorded 109th place. KISTI is introducing a sixth supercomputer, aiming for completion in the first half of next year.
The top ranking was held by 'El Capitan' from the U.S. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), followed by 'Frontier' from the U.S. Oak Ridge National Laboratory in second place, and 'Aurora World' from the U.S. Argonne National Laboratory in third. 'Jupiter Booster' from the German Jülich Supercomputing Centre entered the rankings at 4th place.
