The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency has established a specialized infection control standard manual for traditional medicine institutions such as clinics and hospitals for traditional Korean medicine for the first time. This is a measure to protect patients and medical staff from infections and strengthen the prevention system in an environment with many invasive procedures.

The agency announced on the 1st that it has published the "Standard Manual for Infection Control in Traditional Medicine Institutions." This manual was developed in collaboration with the Korean Association of Traditional Medicine and involved traditional medicine experts and infection control practitioners.

The manual contains general principles for infection prevention, an overview of key traditional Korean medicine procedures such as acupuncture, cupping therapy, moxibustion, and chuna therapy, as well as infection risk factors and prevention guidelines. It also includes explanations of infection control-related terminology and practical guidelines to facilitate easy application on-site.

Director Jeong Mi of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency noted, "It is significant that a national infection control manual reflecting the characteristics of traditional medicine institutions has been prepared for the first time," adding, "In the future, the agency will continue to strive to improve infection control standards through suitable monitoring systems and educational operations for traditional medicine institutions."
