The Nuclear Safety And Security Commission stated on the 16th that a special inspection conducted on 46 institutions possessing radiation-generating devices revealed damage to shielding materials (lead curtains) in 14 institutions.

As a follow-up to the radiation exposure incident that occurred at Samsung Electronics' Giheung plant last year, the Nuclear Safety And Security Commission carried out a special inspection of institutions using radiation-generating devices that require reporting. The special inspection was conducted from November last year to March this year for 46 institutions holding more than 30 radiation-generating devices.

The inspection results confirmed that some of the shielding materials (lead curtains) of the radiation-generating devices installed on automated production line (conveyor belt) in 14 institutions were damaged. The Nuclear Safety And Security Commission ordered corrective measures demanding the normalization of the damaged items at these institutions and plans to impose fines in the future.

The Nuclear Safety And Security Commission plans to supplement the handling standards for the reported target devices. Additionally, to continuously monitor the management status of devices at reporting institutions, annual on-site inspections of reporting institutions will be conducted.
