Seoul National University Hospital recently announced on the 15th that it performed surgeries on prostate and pancreatic cancer patients using the Hugo robot. Professors Jeong Chang-wook of the Department of Urology and Jang Jin-young of the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery performed robot-assisted resection of the prostate and duodenum. There was less incision and pain for patients compared to open surgery.
Hugo is a robot developed by the American medical device corporation Medtronic. It can assemble or disassemble up to four robotic arms to access the surgical site from multiple angles. Medical staff can confirm the surgical scene together and communicate.
Professor Jang noted that "the duodenum requires precise resection and anastomosis, making it a challenging abdominal surgery," and added, "(with the robot) we will help patients across various fields." Professor Jeong stated, "We can perform customized surgery using the robot," and mentioned, "I will strive for research on robotic surgery."
