The World Institute of Kimchi announced on the 15th that its director, Jang Hae-chun, has been reappointed as the fifth director.

Director Jang received a Ph.D. in food engineering from Seoul National University and has served as a professor in the Department of Food and Nutrition at Chosun University since 1996. He has held positions as the head of the Kimchi Research Center at Chosun University, a member of the Planning and Evaluation Committee of the National Research Council of Science and Technology, a science and technology committee member of the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (formerly the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs), a member of the self-regulation review board of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and vice president of the Korean Society of Microbiology and Biotechnology.

Director Jang served as the fourth director of the World Institute of Kimchi for the past three years, earning a rating of 'excellent' in the comprehensive evaluation of the institution.

Director Jang said, "Kimchi is a global asset that transcends being a simple fermented food, embodying Korea's culture, science, and identity. I will dedicate myself with the original intention to elevate kimchi into a high-value future food and advanced application material industry, and I aspire to make it a research institution trusted by the public."
