Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) announced on the 29th that it will hold a special exhibition titled "Treasures of Masterpieces" showcasing works from gallery owner Shin Hong-kyu, who is active in New York, at its Daejeon campus art museum. The exhibition will feature works including 18th-century artist François Boucher and 19th-century master Vincent van Gogh's "Portrait of a Peasant Woman." On that day, the KAIST art museum will hold an opening ceremony together with invited guests following a lecture by gallery owner Shin Hong-kyu. General viewing will be available from the 30th until Aug. 29, with viewing hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. The exhibition will operate free of charge.
Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB) announced that it has published a book titled "Understanding the Bioeconomy" to enhance public understanding of biotechnology and industry in the era of the bioeconomy. The era of bioeconomy refers to an economic form that creates new value across various industries through technologies related to life sciences. The newly published book clearly and simply explains how the bio industry is currently changing and why understanding the bioeconomy is essential. The content is divided into four chapters: the opening of the bioeconomy era, the ecosystem of the bioeconomy and bioindustry, key technologies of the bioeconomy, and the future of the bioindustry.
Korea Institute of Toxicology (KIT) announced on the 29th that it held a ceremony for its 23rd anniversary and the declaration of a name change at Hotel ICC in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. The event was organized to inform about changing the name of the institution from the Safety Evaluation Institute to the Korea Institute of Toxicology. During the ceremony, the Information Security Office, which contributed to the establishment of a conducive research environment, received the KIT Achievement Award, and Kim Sung-hwan, head of the Jeonbuk Advanced Bio Research Center, won the 2025 KIT Person of the Year award for creating exemplary cases of collaboration between grants and local governments. KIT Director Heo Jeong-du noted, "We will do our best to secure world-class technology through mid- to long-term planning and the discovery of four core technologies."
The Korea National Science Museum will hold an award ceremony for the final works of the "2025 Future Scientist Drawing Competition" at the Oullim Hall of the Gwacheon Science Museum at 11 a.m. on the 3rd. The competition, which was conducted under the theme "The world changed by very, very small substances: quantum mechanics," selected 85 works from the fine arts category and 24 works from the digital drawing category as awardees out of a total of over 850 submitted pieces. The awarded works will be exhibited in the central hall on the first floor of the Gwacheon Science Museum from May 3 to June 8, and an online exhibition of the award-winning pieces can also be viewed on the competition's website. The award ceremony will include congratulatory performances and an augmented reality (AR) photo zone.
