The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on the 28th that it will accept applications for advanced regenerative medicine implementation organizations until December 12. Advanced regenerative medicine involves cultivating one's own cells to replace damaged body tissues and organs. When cells regenerate, normal function can be restored. This can fundamentally treat the disease, rather than just alleviating symptoms.
To conduct clinical research and treatment in advanced regenerative medicine, certain facilities, equipment, and personnel must be in place. The Minister will designate the implementation organizations for advanced regenerative medicine thereafter. Currently, 125 medical institutions, including 44 general hospitals, have been designated.
A Ministry official noted, "We will strengthen the management system to ensure that research and treatment in advanced regenerative medicine are conducted in a safe environment."
