The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) announced on the 22nd that Professor Emeritus Kim Seong-gak of the Department of Chemistry has donated 120,000 shares of HanChem, valued at 1.2 billion won, to the school.

Professor Kim began a joint research project with HanChem by establishing the Molecular Design and Synthesis Research Center at KAIST in 1999, and has since led collaborative research for a long time as the center director. HanChem has grown into a top-tier clinical research organization (CRO) and contract manufacturing organization (CMO) specializing in organic synthesis technologies in South Korea, having incubated at KAIST from 1999 to 2002.

The Department of Chemistry at KAIST plans to strengthen its research infrastructure with this donation and to embark on the development of next-generation core technologies in the field of chemistry and the exploration of new business opportunities.

Professor Emeritus Kim Seong-gak noted, "The collaboration centered around the Molecular Design and Synthesis Research Center has driven the growth of HanChem," and expressed hope that "this donation will serve as a cornerstone for the future of the KAIST Department of Chemistry."
