On the 21st, the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) announced the results of the 33rd Astronomy Photography Contest. A total of 260 works were submitted for this contest, and Jae-hoon Song's "Dance of NGC 7331 and Lonely Galaxies" won the grand award.
The Astronomy Photography Contest judges both the photography and video categories, with themes divided into deep sky, Earth and space, and the solar system. The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute selected 32 works as award winners from this year's submissions. Particularly this year, following the establishment of Space Aviation Day, a new award from the Director of the Space Aviation Agency was created, and the number of winning works was slightly increased.
The judges noted, "We feel that the decline in prices of astronomy photography equipment and the advancement of image processing software have made it easier for beginners to enter, resulting in an increase in submitted works and greater interest. We expect works with originality and appropriate image processing techniques."
Winning works of the contest can be viewed on the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute's website (www.kasi.re.kr). The award-winning pieces will be exhibited starting May 27 in celebration of Space Aviation Day at the National Daegu Science Museum and Sacheon City Hall.
