The Korea Association of Government-Funded Research Institutes (KARFI), a gathering of researchers from government-funded research institutes, welcomed the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 7th.

In its statement, KARFI noted, "The impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol was perhaps something forecasted as early as 2023," adding, "We remember a time when the budget for scientific and technological research and development (R&D), the cornerstone of national competitiveness, was illegally cut, disregarding the voices of opposition and concern from scientists and conducting unilateral budget reductions without any communication with the field."

KARFI stated, "Although President Yoon Suk-yeol has been impeached, the damage inflicted on science and technology as a whole has not been recovered," and added, "We hope this impeachment is not the end but the beginning of preparing for a new spring in national science and technology."

KARFI has approximately 2,600 members, comprised of researchers from 22 government-funded research institutes.
