The Korea Aerospace Administration announced that it has formed the 'Civil-Military Space Industry Standardization Forum' in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, and held an inauguration ceremony at the Government Sejong Convention Center on the 18th.
The Korea Aerospace Administration, the National Standards Agency, and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration signed a memorandum of understanding in September last year to establish standards and certification systems for the space industry. A forum was created to seek ways to enhance domestic parts localization and secure global competitiveness.
The forum will be co-chaired by the Director General-level officials from the three ministries. A separate working organization will be established to prepare standards for the Korean space industry to support the expansion of domestic manufacturing parts.
Hanchang, Director General of the Space Industry Bureau at the Korea Aerospace Administration, noted that "utilization of commercial components in the space sector is essential for the development of the private-led space industry in the era of new space," adding, "I hope that the launch of this forum will strengthen the space technology development capabilities of our parts companies, and serve as a stepping stone for us to leap forward as a space power through self-reliance."
