Seoul National University Hospital announced on the 24th that it has opened the 'Healthcare AI Research Institute' to research and develop artificial intelligence technologies that will accelerate medical innovation.

The Healthcare AI Research Institute aims to create 'a sustainable healthy future through innovative AI research.' It plans to lead patient-centered treatment and medical innovation by developing an AI-based precision diagnosis system and personalized treatment methods.

This Research Institute is composed of a data science center and a technology research center, conducting research in various fields including ▲big data ▲infrastructure ▲statistical analysis ▲medical imaging ▲biometrics ▲genomics ▲digital pathology. It will establish the foundation for AI medical research by building a cutting-edge GPU infrastructure and a large-scale data platform, and it plans to promote various research projects for the commercialization of AI medical technologies.

To that end, Seoul National University Hospital will utilize its research collaboration center within the Yangjae AI Hub and collaborate with domestic and international AI corporations and universities, while strengthening its global research network. Seoul National University Hospital will enhance industry-academia cooperation with key domestic research institutions such as Seoul National University College of Engineering and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and will operate educational programs to foster AI researchers and secure AI professionals.

Kim Young-tae, president of Seoul National University Hospital, said, 'Starting in 2025, Seoul National University Hospital will achieve comprehensive advancements that can be applied in real clinical settings by generating world-class research results, nurturing the next generation of medical AI experts, and developing innovative medical technologies.' He added, 'Through joint research with global research institutions, we will open new horizons in the field of medical AI and establish a significant turning point to leap beyond South Korea and become a global research institution.'

Seoul National University Hospital already has abundant experience and advanced technological infrastructure. It began the digitalization of medical records as the first in the country and possesses accurate and vast medical data. It has also established innovative research environments such as cutting-edge GPU clusters, the specialized research institute data platform 'NSTRI,' the integrated big data research platform 'SNUHUB,' the clinical data warehouse research search system 'SUPREME,' and the pseudonymized medical record viewer 'DeView.'

Seoul National University Hospital recently declared its leap as a research-focused hospital leading the national digital biohealth industry. Last year, it was designated as the first 'National Strategic Technology Specialized Research Institute' by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
