The National Research Foundation of Korea announced on the 17th that it has appointed Baek Seung-wook as the Director General of the Quantum Technology Center at the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science.

Director General Baek graduated from Pusan National University in 2004 with a degree in mechanical engineering, earned a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Seoul National University, and received a doctorate from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Afterward, he worked at the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Japan, Tohoku University, and Samsung Electronics Technical Research Institute before joining the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science in 2014, where he continues to serve. While at the institute, he has held key positions, including head of the Policy Strategy Department and Director General of the Quantum Technology Center. From 2019 to 2020, he also served as a specialized member of the National Science and Technology Advisory Council.

Director General Baek is responsible for evaluation management and project planning for the supporting projects under the Quantum Technology Division, proposing medium- to long-term development plans, establishing and advising on policies, developing budget allocation plans, monitoring progress and promoting the utilization of results, and managing external cooperation.
