Maeil Holdings' subsidiary and the official importer of Sapporo and Ebisu beers, M's Beverages, established a new corporation called M's Beer to expand its retail alcohol business. This is interpreted as Maeil Holdings moving away from a dairy-centric business structure and diversifying its operations.
According to Maeil Holdings on the 14th, M's Beverages founded the subsidiary M's Beer with a capital of 50 million won on May 30. M's Beverages is a joint venture established in 2011 by Maeil Holdings and Sapporo International of Japan, with each company currently holding 85% and 15% equity, respectively.
The newly established M's Beer was created to operate the 'Sapporo Premium Beer Stand', the first overseas store for Sapporo Beer, located in Seongsu-dong. The main business purposes include ▲ retail and distribution of alcoholic beverages ▲ general restaurant business ▲ food and beverage related marketing, brand planning, and consulting ▲ advertising agency and promotional material production ▲ franchise business development, operation, and support. The CEO is Jeong Beom-sik, who also serves as the CEO of M's Beverages, and Ko Jeong-soo, Vice President of Maeil Dairies, is listed as an inside director.
The establishment of M's Beer is interpreted as part of Maeil Holdings'脱殻 strategy. As the birth rate declines and milk consumption contracts, analysis suggests that the growth potential of Maeil Dairies' dairy industry has stagnated, prompting a search for expansion into new business areas such as alcohol and dining. In fact, Maeil Holdings is broadening its footprint across the dining industry. Through its subsidiary M's Seed, a subsidiary of holding company Maeil Holdings, it operates brands such as Paul Bassett, Crystal Jade, and The Kitchen Il Pollo, and this year it also launched a new dining brand, Shabu Restaurant Shanghai.
