The broadcast sales of TV home shopping reached their lowest level in 13 years. The proportion of transmission fees relative to broadcast sales has increased.
According to '2024 TV home shopping industry status' published by the Korea TV Home Shopping Association on the 7th, the total transaction amount of seven TV home shopping operators (GS, CJ, Hyundai, Lotte, NS, Home & Company, and Public Broadcasting) was 19.4999 trillion won, which is a 3.6% decrease from the previous year.
While the total sales amounted to 5.5724 trillion won, an increase of 0.3%, broadcast sales decreased by 3.2% to 2.6428 trillion won. The broadcast sales represent the lowest level since recording 3.0286 trillion won in 2012.
Total operating profit was 388.8 billion won, an 18.9% increase from the previous year. However, compared to 2022, it was a decrease of more than 20%. The operating profits for 2023 (327 billion won) and last year (388.8 billion won) did not reach the oldest figure recorded by the association since 2009, which was 450.1 billion won.
Transmission fees amounted to 1.9364 trillion won, a decrease of 0.1% from the previous year. However, the proportion of transmission fees relative to broadcast sales is on the rise, increasing from 71% last year to 73.3%.
A representative from the Korea TV Home Shopping Association said, "Reforming the structure of the paid broadcasting industry that is excessively dependent on home shopping transmission fees is a top priority and a path to coexistence," adding, "We look forward to the role of the new government."
