Hyundai Department Store announced on the 30th that it has signed a sponsorship agreement with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the United States. The agreement is for a period of three years. This is the first time a domestic retailer has entered into a long-term sponsorship agreement with the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which opened in 1870, is considered one of the world's top four art museums. It houses tens of thousands of artworks that capture 5,000 years of art history, making it a destination that attracts more than 5.5 million visitors annually.
Through this agreement, Hyundai Department Store will sponsor activities aimed at the development of Korean art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The company expects that it will contribute not only to the academic re-evaluation of Korean art but also to the strengthening of K-art's status within international art history.
Benefits have also been arranged for Hyundai Department Store customers visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Members of the Hyundai Department Store mobile application and one accompanying person can enter the Metropolitan Museum of Art for free. In addition, they can use customized docent tours and exclusive private lounges for free through prior reservations, along with discounts at the souvenir shop.
A representative of Hyundai Department Store noted, 'This agreement is the result of the convergence of Hyundai Department Store, which aims to offer cultural experiences that enrich customers' lives, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which shares humanity's heritage through art.' The representative added, 'We will continue to expand activities that enhance cultural experiences in customers' daily lives through collaboration with world-class cultural and art institutions.'
