On the 18th, Hyundai Department Store announced that it is considering new construction in line with the reconstruction of nearby apartments at the Apgujeong main store. To this end, it has decided to apply for a change of use to a quasi-residential area.

The reconstruction of Apgujeong District 2 is a project to rebuild the 1,924-unit Shin Hyundai Apartments (9th, 11th, and 12th phases), which were completed in 1982, and the selection of a construction company is upcoming.

When the Apgujeong main store was built in 1985, it could have been constructed as a central facility in the apartment district. However, due to the subdivision into general residential area type 3 under the National Land Planning Act in the early 2000s, expansion or new construction has become difficult. According to the law, large department stores cannot be built in a general residential area type 3.

Accordingly, Hyundai Department Store plans to apply for a review to change the designation of the Apgujeong main store site from the current general residential area type 3 to a quasi-residential area.

A representative from Hyundai Department Store said, "According to the Seoul City district unit plan establishment standards, we are carefully reviewing the option of changing the land use of the Apgujeong main store site to a quasi-residential area in line with the timing of the apartment reconstruction in Apgujeong."
