It has been identified that the SPC Samlip Siheung factory, which had completely halted operations due to a worker's death, has resumed some production lines.
The SPC Samlip Siheung factory has a total of 29 production lines, with over 1,180 employees. It accounts for approximately 30% of SPC Samlip's total production.
According to SPC Samlip on the 2nd, the Siheung factory has sequentially resumed 19 out of its 29 production lines. However, 10 lines, including 8 lines related to the accident involving a female worker in her 50s and 2 lines consolidated with those lines, remain shut down.
Previously, on the 19th of last month, a female worker surnamed A, in her 50s, died after becoming trapped in a machine while applying lubricant to a cooling conveyor belt at the Siheung factory. Shortly after the incident, the Ministry of Employment and Labor issued a work stoppage order for the 8 production lines at the factory.
Authorities, including the police, have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances. At that time, SPC Samlip reportedly had all 29 production lines at the Siheung factory halted while undergoing investigation.
As the factory stopped operations, disruptions in supply occurred for burger franchises that receive burger buns. In particular, the burger bun production line belongs to the 10 lines that have been halted, and production issues are expected to persist for some time.
An official from SPC Samlip said, "Some lines at the SPC Samlip Siheung factory have resumed operation," adding, "The lines that received a work stoppage order will remain halted, and the decision to resume will be made after obtaining approval from the authorities."
