Chung Yong-jin, chairman of Shinsegae Group, met with U.S. President Donald Trump, who is on a tour of the Middle East in Qatar.
On the 14th (local time), Chairman Chung attended a dinner with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, and President Trump in Doha, Qatar. Before entering the dining hall, the two exchanged handshakes and conversation.
Chairman Chung's attendance at the dinner was reportedly arranged at the invitation of the King of Qatar and President Trump. It seems that President Trump invited Chairman Chung, who has a close relationship with him.
Chairman Chung also met then-President-elect Trump at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida last December. He later attended President Trump's inauguration ceremony. Last month, he invited President Trump's eldest son, Trump Jr., to South Korea and facilitated a meeting with major corporations.
The relationship between Chairman Chung and Trump Jr. is said to have begun at an event organized by a domestic media company in 2010. Since then, the two have built a friendship by sharing common religious beliefs (Protestant) and similar interests.
