Kim Dong-chan (25), the eldest son of Kim Nam-jung, chairman of Dongwon Group and a third-generation owner of the family, has joined Dongwon Group.
According to the food industry on the 14th, Kim joined the group's parent company and holding company, Dongwon Industries, through a public recruitment process last December. He is currently working as a staff member in the marine and fisheries division of Dongwon Industries, handling operational tasks and is expected to go on a month-long fishing expedition on a deep-sea fishing boat next month.
Born in 2000, Kim is the eldest of Kim's two sons and one daughter and graduated from the Global Business Department at Sungkyunkwan University. None of Kim's three children, including Kim Dong-chan, own shares in Dongwon Group affiliates. Although he joined as a regular employee, there is speculation that he is preparing to participate in management.
The late Kim Jae-chul, the founder and honorary chairman of Dongwon Group, who built the group from a non-paid navigator, has emphasized "on-site management." Honorary Chairman Kim encouraged his eldest son, Kim Nam-gu, chairman of Korea Investment Holdings, to work on deep-sea fishing boats from his university days, and guided his second son, Kim Nam-jung, chairman of Dongwon Group, through experiences in a tuna factory and as a sales representative at the Cheongnyangni wholesale market.
