LOTTE Corporation has established an 'AI Ethics Charter' that employees must abide by to prevent social issues that may arise from the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
LOTTE announced on the morning of the 7th that it held a declaration ceremony for the 'LOTTE AI Ethics Charter' based on the AI ethics guidelines from UNESCO and the Ministry of Science and ICT at the Lotte World Tower in Jamsil, Seoul. Approximately 80 attendees, including No Jun-hyung, head of management innovation at LOTTE Corporation, participated in the event along with AI executives and team leaders from LOTTE Corporation and its subsidiaries.
The ethics charter includes the statement, 'LOTTE contributes to the enrichment of human life by adhering to correct behavior and ethical values throughout the entire process of utilizing AI.' Specifically, it includes provisions that 'AI technology will create beneficial values for humans and society without infringing upon human autonomy and dignity,' 'ensures that AI does not discriminate unfairly based on personal characteristics such as gender, age, or disability, allowing everyone to equitably benefit from AI technology,' and 'establishes a strict security system for personal data protection in the development and operation of AI systems.'
LOTTE is carrying out AI projects across all areas of the group to strengthen its fundamental competitiveness. The main development areas are purchasing, production, sales, marketing, and customer management.
The chemicals division improved business capabilities while conducting projects in the purchasing and production area last year. LOTTE Chemical developed a synthetic resin color matching simulation system that utilizes AI to find color combinations desired by customers, improving daily productivity by 50%. LOTTE Fine Chemical enhanced efficiency in cost management and raw material supply by establishing a system for analyzing raw material market conditions and predicting contract prices.
LOTTE Corporation's AI platform, 'Aimember,' records an average of over 150,000 uses per month within the group due to its advantage of allowing the use of external generative AI without security concerns. LOTTE Innovate also launched external services for Aimember, signing service supply contracts with six information technology (IT) solution companies last month. The number of subsidiaries utilizing the data integration platform SMARTLION and the marketing planning system AIMS developed by LOTTE Innovate is also increasing.
Park Jong-nam, head of the AI Innovation Task Force at LOTTE Corporation, noted, 'As the proportion of AI usage in the group expands, the potential risks such as information distortion, leakage, and human rights violations may increase.' He added, 'Establishing a communication environment that can reconfirm and verify the risks of AI outputs based on the ethics charter will further accelerate the group's AI competitiveness.'
