On the 7th, it was confirmed that Shin Dong-bin, chairman of the LOTTE Group, will attend next month's CGF (The Consumer Goods Forum) Global Summit. This follows his visits to Indonesia last month and Vietnam this month.
According to the distribution industry, Chairman Shin is expected to attend the CGF Global Summit, which will be held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from June 10 to 13. It is reported that Chairman Shin's eldest son, Shin Yoo-yeol, vice president and head of future growth at LOTTE Corporation, and Kang Sung-hyun, president of Lotte Mart, will accompany him. Jeong Joon-ho, president of Lotte Department Store, will not be accompanying him due to the Global Department Store Summit (GDSS) scheduled in Seoul during that time.
CGF is a global forum for the consumer goods industry, established in 1953 with the purpose of 'providing a platform for discussions and knowledge sharing for a better life for people around the world.' More than 400 consumer goods manufacturers and distributors from over 70 countries, including Amazon, Walmart, Carrefour, Aeon, and Coca-Cola, participate.
LOTTE has been active as a member since 2012. Since 2023, Chairman Shin has been the only Korean corporate leader sitting on the CGF board. Previously, Chairman Shin attended the Global Summit held in Dublin, Ireland, in 2022, and in Kyoto, Japan, in 2023. At these two events, LOTTE set up promotional booths and engaged in activities to attract the 2030 Busan World Expo.
Chairman Shin has been actively conducting overseas activities this year. From the 28th to the 29th of last month, he visited Jakarta, Indonesia, as the Director General of The Federation of Korean Industries' economic delegation and met with President Prabowo Subianto to discuss collaboration strategies.
Prior to the presidential meeting, at a roundtable event with the Indonesian Employers' Association, Chairman Shin noted, "Indonesia, the largest economy in ASEAN, is a key partner for Korean corporations." The LOTTE Group is preparing to make large-scale new investments in Indonesia, focusing on the distribution sector.
Immediately following that schedule, Chairman Shin visited Hanoi, Vietnam, to tour the recently completed LOTTE Mall Westlake and LOTTE Center Hanoi. In February, he participated in the opening ceremony of the new Havmor factory in Pune, Maharashtra, India, expressing aspirations for the local confectionery and ice cream business.
Industry analysts expect that, with Chairman Shin returning to the board of directors of Lotte Shopping for the first time in five years this year, a platform for various businesses aimed at expanding Lotte Shopping's overseas presence will be established at next month's CGF event. Recently, Lotte Shopping has focused on expanding its global business, including plans to establish an International Headquarters (iHQ) in Singapore during the first half of this year. Regarding this, a LOTTE Corporation official stated, "Chairman Shin's personal schedule has not yet been shared."
