OB announced on the 17th that it has completed the construction of solar power generation facilities at its Gwangju, Icheon, and Cheongju production plants.
The Gwangju plant first installed solar panels with a capacity of 3.7 megawatts (MW) in March 2023. It produces 3.7 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable energy annually, replacing about 11% of the annual power consumption.
The solar panels at the Cheongju plant have a total capacity of 1.8 MW. They can produce 0.6 GWh of renewable energy annually, which can replace about 2.6% of the annual power consumption at the Cheongju plant.
The solar panels at the Icheon plant also have a total capacity of 1.8 MW and can produce 1.7 GWh of renewable energy annually. This can replace about 3.7% of the annual power consumption at the Icheon plant.
According to OB, operating the solar power generation systems at all three plants will reduce carbon emissions by about 2,800 tons annually.
OB also plans to transition 100% of the power used in beer production to renewable energy through power purchase agreements (PPA), energy storage systems (ESS), and virtual power plants (VPP). They stated that this aims to achieve carbon neutrality (net zero) by 2040.
OB representative Bae Hajun said, "The completion of solar power generation facilities at the three production plants is an important indicator that shows OB's eco-friendly management strategy is not just a slogan but a genuine action that is being realized."
