The Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 27th that it will operate a 'Support Center for Slow Learners' starting on the 30th, providing tailored programs for individuals with borderline intellectual functioning.
Individuals with borderline intellectual functioning (slow learners) do not fall under the category of intellectual disabilities, but they are positioned on the borderline between disabilities and non-disabilities, facing difficulties in academics and work due to low cognitive functioning.
LH provided two publicly rented commercial buildings in the district free of charge to establish the Support Center for Slow Learners, which was created to implement programs for psychological counseling and improving social skills of slow learners, after signing an agreement with Guro District in October of last year.
The center aims to enhance social understanding of slow learners through awareness improvement education, parent self-help groups, and the establishment of community networks among the public, private, and education sectors to alleviate the emotional burden on families.
The LH Seoul Regional Headquarters plans to establish a standard model of housing services tailored to Seoul by identifying various socially and economically vulnerable groups and providing customized housing services. It will continue to formalize the supply of various housing services while expanding support for vulnerable groups.
