The Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 26th that it signed a business agreement with the Korea Housing Association to promote modular housing at the Construction Hall in Gangnam, Seoul.

In attendance at the signing ceremony were O Ju-hun, Head of LH's Public Housing Headquarters, and Kim Jae-sik, Vice President of the Korea Housing Association.

Modular housing is a type of dwelling that utilizes Off-Site Construction (OSC) methods, with over 70% of the components pre-fabricated in a factory and then installed on-site. It is effective in alleviating labor shortages on construction sites as well as reducing carbon emissions and waste, while also shortening construction periods. The OSC method is based on off-site construction, where more than 70% of the key components are pre-fabricated in a factory, then transported and assembled on-site.

LH is leading the way in expanding the supply of modular housing by establishing a '2030 OSC Housing Roadmap' to promote smart construction technology. Based on this agreement, LH plans to cooperate with the Korea Housing Association to propose effective policies that reflect the practical capabilities and on-site experiences of private construction companies.

Both organizations agreed to cooperate on ▲ hosting seminars to improve the modular housing system and raise awareness ▲ standardizing designs and developing high-rise technologies ▲ quality improvements such as reducing inter-floor noise ▲ sharing human and material resources.

Deputy Minister O noted, "This agreement will lay a solid foundation for standardizing effective modular housing designs based on the practical capabilities and on-site experiences of the private sector, and will serve as an important stepping stone for creating an ecosystem of smart construction technologies," and said, "We will continue to push for the expansion of public housing supply by utilizing modular housing, which can quickly provide dwellings of uniform quality."
