BS Corporation announced that the EU ambassador to South Korea, Maria Castillo Fernandez, along with ambassadors from over 20 EU member countries, visited Jeonnam Haenam Solasido on the 19th.

The EU delegation toured the development site and discussed the direction of the Solasido development, which is being built as a "smart city" focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) and energy.

This visit is part of the annual workshop of the EU delegation to South Korea (HoMs Retreat, Head of Missions Retreat). The workshop seeks to explore solutions to major issues such as political, economic, and security matters between Korea and the EU, as well as global challenges like climate crisis, while visiting key industrial facilities and landmarks in the region.

After visiting the San-i Garden, an eco-friendly children's garden for future generations, the EU delegation to South Korea received a briefing at the Garden Museum on the "smart city" Solasido and its renewable energy projects. The briefing shared the current status and vision of the Solasido development, including plans for an AI data center based on solar and wind energy, the establishment of an RE100 industrial complex, and the creation of a living environment for future incoming populations.

Through the briefing, the EU delegation to South Korea understood the plans for the Solasido solar power plant and nearby renewable energy generation facilities. They acknowledged the technological prowess of South Korea's renewable energy industry and its expertise in eco-friendly urban development. They expressed high interest and explored the potential for synergies between Europe’s Green Deal policy and Korea’s carbon neutrality policy.

Solasido is a large-scale public-private partnership urban development project being pursued by BS Corporation and BS Industries, along with Jeollanam-do, over an area of approximately 20.9 million square meters (6.32 million pyeong) in Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do. It is being developed as a "smart city" focusing on AI and energy, equipped with optimal site conditions and living environments for the creation of advanced industrial clusters, including stable large-scale renewable energy supply, ample land, abundant industrial water, and disaster resilience.

In particular, Solasido can supply abundant renewable energy generated from nearby Yeongsan River reclaimed land solar complex (5.4 GW) at low prices to corporations. BS Corporation expects it to become the optimal site for the establishment of AI data centers and the realization of RE100.

Recently, Solasido was selected as a final candidate site for Jeollanam-do's distributed energy specialized area, making further progress towards the realization of an energy self-sufficient city through the local production and consumption of electricity (地產地消), allowing operators to supply electricity directly to consumers without going through the power market.
