Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 16th that it will hold the 29th 'LH Youth Housing Architecture Competition' targeting youth and adolescents.

This year marks the 29th LH Youth Housing Architecture Competition, which is a regular public contest in the domestic dwellings sector.

The design competition theme is 'Urban Valley, Urban Alley: Youth dwellings, connecting with the city.' Participants are expected to provide creative design alternatives for youth dwellings that understand the context of nature and urban areas and communicate ecologically and socially.

The designated site for the design competition is a transit-oriented development site in downtown Seoul. Design conditions include a floor area ratio of 200% or less and a building coverage ratio of 60% or less. Participants can freely present spatial configurations, scenarios, and more in line with the theme, starting with the residents.

This year's general coordinator is Professor Lee Joong-won from Sungkyunkwan University’s Department of Architecture, who will oversee ▲setting the competition theme and direction ▲planning and conducting evaluations ▲providing competition guidelines.

Previously, this competition was held exclusively for university students. However, this year, anyone aged 19 to 39 can participate. The scope has been expanded to discover innovative ideas from a diverse age group. Participants can enter as individuals or teams.

The newly established idea category this year is open to youths aged 9 to 18. The competition theme is 'Dwellings integrated with smart technology that future generations want to live in.' Submissions must be made in short form (short video).

Judging will be handled by five external experts in the architecture field. The design sector will go through a 1st and 2nd round of judging to select a total of 15 works. The idea sector will choose a total of 26 works through the 1st and 2nd rounds of judging.

The total prize money for this competition is 29.4 million won, including 24 million won for the design sector and 5.4 million won for the idea sector. Winners of the design sector's grand prize and excellence award will be given the opportunity to participate in an overseas architectural excursion. Awardees of excellence or higher will also receive additional benefits such as exemptions from written exams and document screening when applying for LH.

The application deadline for the competition is until the 4th of next month.
