Oh Se-hoon, the mayor of Seoul, has confirmed to have instructed the flexible operation of the social mix (mixed housing for sale and lease) policy. In response to emerging conflicts with the city regarding the placement of rental dwellings, particularly in Han River redevelopment complexes, he has taken steps to prepare alternatives, including cash donations.
According to the maintenance industry on the 27th, Mayor Oh recently ordered the housing and urban-related departments of Seoul to examine whether there are issues with the operation of the policy and to consider its flexible application due to the growing controversy surrounding social mix.
The city of Seoul plans to maintain the principle of distributing rental dwellings evenly across all buildings, but is reviewing a plan to allow cash donations and other measures if rental dwellings are not included in buildings adjacent to the Han River, depending on the complex's design.
The city of Seoul has also decided to establish clear standards for complexes that received project implementation approval before the introduction of the social mix.
Previously, there was pushback against the city of Seoul's social mix policy in complexes such as the Jamsil Jugong 5 complex in Songpa District and the Yeouido Gongjak Apartment, including allocation of lottery drawing numbers without distinguishing between union and rental, and securing Han River views for rental dwellings.
