The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 26th that it will dispatch a support team to Tanzania and Qatar from the 26th to the 30th to expand its entry into the construction market in Africa.
The Ministry explained that this visit is part of a strategy to strengthen cooperation in key areas such as smart cities, urban development, and transportation infrastructure, and to achieve $2 trillion in overseas construction orders based on the technology and experience of our corporations.
In particular, meetings with the Tanzanian government and site visits are expected to provide an opportunity to expand the participation base of our corporations in major projects such as dwellings, roads, and railways, thereby capturing emerging markets in Africa.
On the 27th, Vice Minister Jin Hyun-hwan will meet with Godfrey Kasukenya, Director General of the Public Projects Department, in Dodoma, the capital of Tanzania, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries on smart cities, new city development, and road construction.
The Public Projects Department is currently pursuing the establishment of satellite cities and smart cities to alleviate population density in major cities, as well as the expansion of connecting roads to neighboring countries, with plans to promote the experience and superior technology of Korean corporations to support their entry.
Afterwards, Vice Minister Jin will discuss cooperation in the areas of dwellings development and spatial information through a meeting with Deo Gratias John Undejembe, Minister of Land and Housing Development.
He plans to discuss the expansion of spatial information cooperation between the two countries, including related projects registered under the Ministry of Land and Housing Development's spatial information innovation center established through the Economic Development Cooperation Fund.
On the same day, Vice Minister Jin will meet with David Kihenzile, Vice Minister of Transport, to discuss cooperation plans for railway infrastructure and request support for the election of ICAO Director General.
He will discuss cooperation plans for the Tanzania Railway Education Center project, which is being promoted through our country's Economic Development Cooperation Fund, and support the smooth progress of the project related to the supervision of the Tanzania Central Line railway construction being undertaken by our corporations.
On the 28th, he will meet with Hassan Hamis Hafid, Director General of the Zanzibar Ministry of Health, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries regarding the construction project of a general hospital in Zanzibar and the development of a bio-cluster that promotes convergence with health and medical industries.
He is also expected to visit the site of the Central Line railway supervision, in which our corporations are participating, to check on the progress of the project and encourage the efforts of the workers.
On the 28th and 29th, he plans to hold meetings with corporations entering Tanzania and Qatar to listen to their difficulties and suggestions related to business promotion in the local area.
Vice Minister Jin noted, "Tanzania is a trade gateway in East Africa and is continuously pursuing large-scale infrastructure construction led by the government, which has generated great interest from our corporations due to its high growth potential," adding, "We plan to support Korea-Tanzania infrastructure cooperation by making Tanzania a base for entry into Africa and diversify the overseas construction market concentrated in the Middle East and Asia."
